Paralympians

Commissioned by the Australian Paralympians through the Tali Gallery in Sydney, Wayne was asked to do an interpretation of the team mascot Lizzy, who was presented to the Paralympic Village Mayor, Eva Loeffler, whose father Ludwig Guttmann is also considered the founder of the Paralympics movement. Several dignitaries were on hand for the ceremony, including Australia’s Governor General Quentin Bryce, sport minister Kate Lundy and Australian Paralympic Committee president Greg Hartung. Below is Margaret McLennan, the General Manager of Corporate Services with the Australian Paralympic Committee, with Lizzie at Tali Gallery ready to go off to her new home in London.

The Cairns Convention Centre was delighted to discover Aboriginal Steel Art as a source for client gifts. Providing locally made items that also reflect our stunning Region is of utmost importance in our selection. We commissioned Wayne McGinness to produce 40 turtles to take overseas which were needed in a short time-frame. The beautiful turtles were delivered on time and ready to present as a treasured gift. The feedback we have received from both our European and North American clients has been outstanding. The turtle is a constant reminder of their meeting with the Convention Centre and gives them a small connection to the Great Barrier Reef and our Region.
